The Idea

In 2010 we initiated the Center to intensively develop research on the entanglements between environment, media, technology, and societal relations using transdisciplinary teamwork methods and the involvement of various experimental perspectives – including art-based research and art&science practices. Trans- and interdisciplinary approaches, which we use extensively, are based on collaborative work involving specialists from various disciplines, including designers, artists, and people from outside the academy. All our activities and projects also involve multiple forms of design, such as critical or speculative design and unconventional modes of using media and technologies. In this way, the media become epistemological tools enabling the use of very different research perspectives and non-standard (as well as speculative) cognitive models.
